An Incredible Forgotten Wedding Tradition

Some things are honestly best left in the past and quite frankly there are a few wedding traditions in particular that have not weathered very well over the years given today’s increase in social issues awareness (garter removal and re-mount we’re looking at you).  That said however, there are some wonderful traditions that have somehow slipped through the cracks over time. The Love Story, being the one spotlighted today.

Now, there are a few modern takes on the love story. It has transitioned nicely and most popularly on to Zola – wedding invitational website, in wedding programs, and artistically on wedding-day décor. All are exceptional ways to tell your love story and should be done, however there’s one method that has the greatest effect and impact on your guests. A live reading of your love story in front of all your guests, right before your grand introduction, read by your MC or friend.

Think of it as your “Once upon a time” story. Like how in Beauty and the Beast the announcer epically tells their story of right before the show starts, bringing the viewers up to speed on what will be a grand love story.  This is a chance to introduce your guests to the entire story of you. It turns into a special moment because everyone gets a chance to listen to your story while they’re all together.

The love story is unique because unlike your vows, it is a personal story of you the events that lead-up to your very first few moments, feelings, dating, and inevitable engagement. And unlike your Maid of Honor and Best Man speech, it’s told only from the perspective that you can provide. It is written by you but spoken aloud by your wedding MC or friend just before or after introducing you into the reception room.
