#1 Communication

Stay connected with your spouse. It’s important you’re both on the same page with expectations. If you’re going to multiple family functions this holiday season; make sure you communicate where you’re going first, what you’ll bring, and how long you’re staying. Take time to sort out a plan you’re both comfortable with and make compromises when needed. The holidays are about being together!

#2 Budget

Holidays can get really expensive really fast. Make sure you make a budget for the holiday season. Don’t get caught up in gift giving competitions with family and friends. Try doing one gift from the both of you, bringing 1 bottle of wine or dish; or set a maximum monetary amount. Stay within your means and always mean well. Just remember that thoughtfulness doesn’t have to mean expensive!

#3 Ditch the Perfectionism

Embrace the unexpected! We all know things don’t always go as planned; and that’s okay. As much as we strive for perfection; it often comes with a handful of stress. Enjoy your time with your loved ones. I mean is it really such a bad thing if you add a little extra rum to the eggnog?

#4 Traditions

Share a tradition with your spouse that you really love. Be open to embracing or learning a new tradition. Everyone has a tradition or two they indulge in year after year. Or you can create a new holiday tradition that you can share with your future kids.

#5 Create Memories

The best part of the holidays are the memories you create. You’ll look back and smile when you think about the good times you shared. Don’t allow the small moments of stress overshadow the fun. Take pictures, laugh, and enjoy yourself. You’ll be sharing these stories for years to come.
