7 Steps to Turn a Boring Wedding into a Banger

How to keep everyone on the dance floor and turn your wedding into a night of good laughs and memories

#1 Size Matters

Having a smaller space means people are more closely put together. This is known as the Dive Bar Effect – small, not very fancy bar where you’re so close you’re almost forced into interaction with someone else. Grand ball rooms are great, however it’s the smaller more intimate venues that curate some of the best parties. Large spaces may make the dance floor look intimidating. Consider the number of guests you have when deciding on space. Already booked? No worry, this next step will surely loosen people up.

Ok, maybe not necessarily but do I have your attention? Getting your guests at least a little tipsy is an easy one to accomplish though. For example, try creating your own signature wedding cocktail (and make it a double). Alcohol is well known to loosen people up. Exactly what your guests need. Especially if they’re in a room with lots a people they don’t know (or haven’t seen in a while). A few drinks will get them talking, dancing, and even singing.

#3 Dim the Lights Please

Speaking of alcohol and bars, have you ever noticed things get a little more exciting with the lights down low? It really does! Not sure on why this is, maybe it’s because we’re all a little less subconscious about ourselves in the dark. Or maybe humans were just were born to get down when the suns down (feel free to steal that). One thing’s for certain; dancing in a room that’s lit up like your neighborhood Walmart IS NOT A VIBE. Dance floor lighting that is colorful and moves to the music helps to move those bodies.

#4 What Time is it?

Time to get a watch… There’s a theme here, have you caught it? It turns out modeling your reception like a night out at the club or bar is the surest way to a banger wedding. That said, timing is everything and it ties in with our last topic of lighting. This will take some pre-consideration and research on your part. You’ll want good day lighting for your ceremony pictures. However, when it comes time for the reception, you’ll want the sun to be either going down or completely down within the 1st hour. When planning your wedding, consider the sun rise and sun set on your date.

It’s Saturday night, you’re with your friends, and you’ve just arrived in the city for a night out. Walking down the streets you hear music from various bars which grabs your attention. The music, the lights, the thump of the bass is all appealing. Now imagine if all those venues were playing music at dentist office levels? Not very appealing right? Listening to music is cool, but feeling the music is when magic starts to happen; over the sounds of our own breath, the bass and lyrics of the music take over our minds and bodies. Louder is better. Make sure your DJ or Venue has the right system in place to achieve banger party status.

There’s a ton of emotion that goes into choosing your music for your day. Songs that bring you back to when you first met and to those special moments throughout your relationship. That said, there are certain songs that are “great songs” to listen to, but they are not dance-able songs. Here’s how to get the songs you want the most and still have a packed dance floor: 1 – Place slower more wordy songs in your dinner and/or cocktail hour playlists. 2 – Test songs you’re unsure of with friends and DJ – They’ll know for sure where it belongs ;)

#7 Invite More People!

Sometimes people leave early; some may even bail due to personal circumstances. Too many guests have never been a problem though. If you think they’d be good company and the budget allows, extend the olive branch. Plus, maybe more gifts too ☺️
